Attention - River Enthusiasts,

There is no Bullhead City River Regatta in 2017. Event organizers and the City of Bullhead City made the decision to cancel the event after safety, trash, liability, and other concerns were brought forward at a public meeting last fall. A petition was also widely circulated asking the City to cancel the event. In addition, City neighbors from the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe requested cancellation of the event.

A few people on social media have encouraged others to come and float in mass in August anyway. The City is sending you this message to let you know the Bullhead City River Regatta has been canceled.

The Colorado River is a national treasure that is free and open to the public for floating every day of the year. Thousands of tourists and locals float the river throughout the summer in Bullhead City and Laughlin. Bullhead City continues to invite you and your friends to enjoy the Colorado River in Bullhead City. Bullhead City parks are free and open to the public every day of the year. The City just needs everyone to understand that an impromptu float the second weekend of August is not sanctioned and will not feature the increased safety that participants have become accustomed to.

The organized River Regatta float featured increased safety by having a U.S. Coast Guard approved safety zone that eliminated all boating traffic on the river. The organized float also included many other safety provisions with assistance from 20 public safety agencies, a massive transportation system, a trash management plan, parking assistance, and numerous other considerations to make this large public gathering safe for all participants. These considerations will not be in place the second week of August on the Colorado River in Bullhead City.

The City knows this decision has been controversial and many people have expressed emotions on both sides of the matter. A final decision has been made. The City sincerely hopes that you will visit us again soon and enjoy the clear blue waters of the Colorado River in Bullhead City at one of our free City parks.

If you ultimately decide to float the second weekend of August, please understand that you are responsible for your own safety on the river, transportation to and from your launch point and any other liabilities or concerns that may occur.
