LAUGHLIN, NV – January 16, 2014 – Aquarius Casino Resort’s second annual “Feed a Family” program and the generosity of Aquarius ace | PLAY™ members helped put a holiday meal on the table of more than 1,000 tri-state families in need this holiday season.
Aquarius’ innovative “Feed a Family” program helped feed an impressive 1,005 families of four in the tri-state area, an increase of more than 100 families from last year’s effort.
The “Feed a Family” program allowed ace | PLAY members to contribute their players club points from November 1 to December 20, 2013 to help put a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal on the table of families in need. For every 12,000 ace | PLAY points collected, Aquarius provided a box of holiday food items like turkey, stuffing, gravy, vegetables, potatoes, cranberries, rolls, and pie. Each box contained enough food to feed a family of four. The food boxes were distributed prior to the holidays to various food banks and pantries in Nevada, Arizona and California.
“Once again, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of our ace | PLAY members and extend a heartfelt thank you for their willingness to help those who may struggle to afford a special meal during the holidays,” said Aquarius Casino Resort General Manager Sean Hammond. “Our goal is to continue to grow this program so we can help make Thanksgiving and Christmas just a little brighter for everyone in our community.”
In addition to players’ club point contributions, $3,100 in cash was raised for the effort from Aquarius’ Christmas Tree Silent Auction, which ran from November 30 until December 21, 2013. Aquarius guests could bid on eleven extravagantly decorated 7.5-foot tall pre-lit Christmas trees, each with a specific theme. Aquarius also received $975 in other miscellaneous donations which brought a total of $4,075 additional dollars that was added to the “Feed a Family” effort. The additional money helped feed 203 families in the tri-state area and increased the final total to 1,005 families aided through this program.
The Home Depot in Bullhead City, AZ donated three of the evergreen trees that were decorated and put up for auction, and offered deep discounts on the others. This year’s Christmas Tree Silent Auction showed how truly generous Aquarius guests and the local community can be. Two local “Secret Santas” and one couple from New Hampshire bought four separate trees and asked they be donated to families without a tree this year.
Agencies that received food boxes at Thanksgiving and Christmas included: Kingman Food Bank, 130 boxes, Kingman, AZ; Golden Valley Food Bank, 110 boxes, Golden Valley, AZ; Praise Chapel, 195 boxes, Bullhead City, AZ; Colorado River Food Bank, 120 boxes, Laughlin, NV; Cornerstone Mission Project, 115 boxes, Kingman, AZ; Needles Chamber of Commerce along with the Women’s Club of Needles, 100 boxes, Needles, CA; The Interagency Council Food Bank, 125 boxes, Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Caring Hearts Food Ministry, 110 boxes, Bullhead City, AZ.
“I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Aquarius staff and patrons for your donations,” said Michael Eigenbrodt, President and CEO at The Interagency Council Food Bank in Lake Havasu City, AZ. “Offering a simple ‘Thank You’ for your gift never quite feels like it’s enough to me, because what you’ve done is help us improve lives.”
The Executive Director of the Needles Chamber of Commerce Sue Godnick, thanked Aquarius Casino Resort on behalf of the Women’s Club of Needles for providing families in Needles with holiday food boxes. “We know each and every family is grateful to the Aquarius Casino Resort for the gifts of love for their 2013 Christmas holiday,” said Godnick.
Caring Hearts Food Ministry also extended a warm thank you to Aquarius Casino Resort ace | PLAY members. “We are very grateful for the Aquarius players that contributed their points to help make this holiday season a special one,” said President of Caring Hearts Food Ministry Marci Burke.
